Stop 3

This stream is spring-fed with cool clear water filtered by the prairie sod and limestone layers. The U.S. Geological Survey studies the pristine condition of Kings Creek as  comparison for other more human impacted prairie streams in the region.

You can see from the video that the bank of the creek is actually quite high. Compare the bank height to the level of water in the creek. Can you imagine how much water was needed to reach the top of the creek bank?  What do you think caused the water to get that high?  Erosion of the soil by high water formed the edges of the bank and continues to slowly eat away at the underlying soil during flooding.
